EDIA Award

The ASAB award for Advancing Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Accessibility in Animal Behaviour recognises an individual or group who have actively promoted inclusivity, equity, and diversity in the field. Recipients will have made sustained and demonstrable contributions to improving equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in animal behaviour by creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all researchers, educators, and students in animal behaviour, raising awareness of barriers faced by underrepresented or historically excluded groups in academia, and highlighting effective practices for addressing them.

Nomination forms can be downloaded here. A separate form should be completed for each nominee (individual or group). Once completed, please submit each nomination form along with the relevant supporting documents in a separate email (one email per nominee) to the Secretary of the EDIA committee by the deadline 1st October. Unsuccessful nominations will be considered for three consecutive years.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Any individual or group of individuals contributing to the field of animal behaviour can be nominated or self-nominate.

Contributions may include (but are not limited to):

  • Inclusive teaching practices or curriculum development in the field of animal behaviour; 

  • Mentorship supporting inclusive participation and retention in the field; 

  • Outreach initiatives that broaden access to animal behaviour research and education among underrepresented or underserved groups; 

  • Research addressing equity-related issues in animal behaviour; 

  • Leadership in developing policies, guidelines, or institutional practices that improve inclusion;

  • Community-building initiatives that support belonging and collaboration in the discipline

  • Recipients must have worked for at least part of their career in the ASAB geographic catchment area.  

AWARD CRITERIA

  1. Contributions to Equity, Diversity & Inclusivity: The nominee (individual or team) has actively promoted equity, diversity, and inclusivity in animal behaviour through activities that are significant and relevant to the field.

  2. Impact: The nominee's contributions demonstrate positive effects in reducing barriers for underrepresented groups and improving inclusion.

  3. Innovation and leadership: The nominee has made distinctive contributions to leadership, mentorship and/or development of others, beyond typical expectations in the field.
